Below is a list of the top 10 places to eat, when visiting the Hendersonville, or Flat Rock area of North Carolina

Moe's Original BBQ

Moe's Original BBQ is a popular barbeque franchise with locations in Hendersonville, Forest City, and Asheville, NC.  The Hendersonville location is right on downtown N. Main Street.  There are no servers here; the atmosphere is very casual, and meals are served in plastic baskets and small plastic cups. When you walk in, you will order at the cash register, and then choose a table.  Your name will be called when your order is ready.  Moe's Original BBQ menu is very simple:  sandwich meals come with two sides and a drink; platter meals come with two sides, a drink, and a slice of seared cornbread.  Takeout is also available.

Main meats include pulled pork, ribs, smoked chicken wings, smoked turkey, smoked chicken, and fried catfish.  Sides sometimes vary, but include:  potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, red beans and rice, collard greens, banana pudding, and chocolate mud pie.  The Moe's Hendersonville location has a salad on the menu, in addition to a tempeh & black bean burger. A customer favorite is the fried shrimp Moe Boy sandwich. Customers love this franchise and rave about the seared cornbread!

The Pita Express

The Pita Express in Hendersonville, NC, serves authentic Middle Eastern Cuisine. They are open Monday - Saturday, 8:30 - 2:30 p.m. You order your food over the counter, and it is served on styrofoam plates. The place is located in a strip mall, just a few minutes away from the Flat Rock Playhouse, and the Carl Sandburg Home. Don't let the basic decor fool you; locals call this place a hidden gem, and say the gyros and falafel are the best they have ever eaten, anywhere. The owners also teach belly dancing and cooking classes. The online reviews are excellent.

Binion's Roadhouse

Binion's Roadhouse is off of Four Seasons Blvd. in Hendersonville, NC. The locals love to eat at this place! Stop in for one of their lunch specials, or plan to have a nice dinner out. The atmosphere is very casual; you can sit at a table, or at the bar. Aside from their burgers, and steaks, Binion's is also known for their "Tombstone Tea." This is their version of a Long Island, and comes in a Mason jar; make sure someone else is driving if you have one of these. A few breakfast dishes are available Monday - Saturday, until 4:30 p.m. Check their website for hours.

Hot Dog World

Hot Dog World is located in downtown Hendersonville. This is very popular among the locals. This cheap eats restaurant is open Monday - Saturday (10 - 9:30). I'd suggest arriving early, or wait till after the lunch rush subsides. The place will quickly get crowded with workers; however, the line will move fast. Skip this place if you are looking for something fancy. This is over the counter fast food, and is self-serve. The owners are Greek and have been in business for 32 years. In addition to hot dogs, they sell Greek salads, gyros, burgers, shakes, and a variety of sandwiches. They also own Yogurt World, which is next door.

Meet the owner Steve, and listen to his story.

My Home, NC | Hot Dog World
When Steve Katsadouros immigrated to the U.S. from Greece as a young child, he probably had no idea he would be a merchant of Americana. Steve and his wife Dora bought Hot Dog World in Hendersonville, NC from her father in 1987 and for over 30 years they have been dressing up dogs to each customer's delight.

Visit their website. You can place an order online too.

Don't forget to stop next door at Yogurt World. Open 7 days a week.
