If you happen to be in downtown Hendersonville, your visit won't be complete without a stop at McFarlan Bakery! Ask anyone in Hendersonville to recommend a bakery, and hands down they will point you to McFarlan's. This family owned business has been using the same recipes that have been passed down for several generations, serving the community for more than 80 years. This is one of the few genuine "made from scratch" bakeries, still in operation in the U.S. today.
This bakery offers a large selection of baked goods: homemade breads, pastries, cakes, seasonal pies, donuts, cookies and so much more. They do sell one gluten-free item, almond macaroons, which naturally do not contain gluten. Take a step back in time; you won't regret it!
Hours: Tues - Sat (7am -5:30 pm), Closed Sun & Mon
Address: 309 N. Main St. Hendersonville, NC 28792

Ice cream sandwiches aren't just for kids! If you're visiting the Arden or Asheville area, you must try one of Sunshine Sammies handmade Artisan ice cream sandwiches. They also serve an assortment of other sweets, ice cream scoops, and baked goods; all ingredients are locally sourced, and everything is homemade. Vegan and gluten-free options are also available.
Sunshine Sammie's also has a storefront location in downtown Asheville, right off of Lexington Avenue. You can visit them there; stop by their vintage ice cream truck, or look for one of their solar powered street carts.
And if you won't be anywhere near Arden or Asheville, you can still enjoy one of their sammies. The three classic signature sammies above are sold in the freezer section of Ingles Grocery, only a 5 minute drive from the cabin.
Look for this teal colored food truck. Their summer location is 2700 Hendersonville Road in Arden. I suggest checking their Facebook page first, in case they're at a farmer's market or festival. Or visit the storefront location in Asheville.
I tried the three classic signature sammies above, and my favorite was the Salted Caramel on Chocolate. Which ice cream sammie do you like best?
